Dr. James North is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He received his bacherlor’s degree from Texas Tech University, graduating summa cum laude. In 2000, Dr. North graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he achieved the distinction of AOA, the highest academic honor in medical school.
Dr. North did his initial training at the University of Hawaii, then completed his residency in anesthesiology in 2004 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. In 2005, he completed his fellowship in pain medicine at Wake Forest University, and joined Carolinas Pain Institute in August 2005.
As an assistant professor at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Dr. North trains anesthesia residents and pain medicine fellows. He is also the medical director for The Center for Clinical Research, serving as primary investigator on dozens of pain research studies.
Dr. North’s expertise include ketamine therapy, advanced interventional pain therapies and neuromodulation, with a specialization in complex spinal cord stimulation cases. He lectures on a variety of pain subjects nationally and internationally.
Dr. North serves on the board of the Pain Society of the Carolinas and the Sceptor Pain Foundation and is a member of the World Institute of Pain. In 2014, he was recognized as a Top Doctor in Pain Management by his peers.
