Dr. Melissa Murphy is a fellowship-trained, double-board-certified interventional spine and pain specialist. She is dedicated to working with each patient individually to develop a personalized treatment plan to improve function and quality of life. She is known to be compassionate, caring, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and highly skilled.
Dr. Murphy received her Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated as one of the Top 10 Outstanding Seniors. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Murphy received a full scholarship to attend medical school and was enrolled in a combined M.D./M.P.H. program in El Paso, Texas. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Texas Tech University Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from The University of Texas School of Public Health. She went on to complete an anesthesiology internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, before undergoing additional fellowship training in pain medicine at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
Using leading-edge technology and evidence-based treatment options, Dr. Murphy is an expert at treating neck pain, low-back pain, post-laminectomy syndrome, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, nonsurgical knee pain, spine compression fractures, and cancer pain. She is also an expert at performing various spine injections, radiofrequency ablations, spinal cord stimulation (SCS), dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRG), peripheral nerve stimulation, basivertebral nerve ablation (Intracept®), targeted drug delivery (TDD), vertebral augmentation (kyphoplasty), and spine tumor ablation (OsteoCoolTM).
Outside of clinical work, Dr. Murphy is a nationally known consultant, key opinion leader (KOL), speaker for advanced pain therapies and medical devices. She is an investigator for nationwide clinical trials and is involved in multiple leading research studies. She is a speaker at national meetings/webinars, teacher for other pain physicians, mentor for pain fellows, and a inspiration for many others.
